Our Honorees

The Nyumbani Award honors people and organizations behind the scenes that help make possible the wonderful things that happen in the Nyumbani programs.

The 2017 Nyumbani Award is being presented to two organizations that have made a difference in the lives of Nyumbani’s children:

Creativa Associates, of Valencia, California, for their generosity and in-kind donations to Nyumbani’s programs,

and

Rotary International, a global network of compassionate people supporting Nyumbani in its efforts in fighting disease, providing clean water, supporting education, and Village sustainability.

The John and Patty Noel Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding individuals/organizations dedicated to fighting poverty, disease and ignorance, and whose accomplishments are consistent with the goals of Nyumbani.

Patty and John Noel, founders of Make-A-Mark Foundation Inc., along with Nyumbani USA are pleased to honor: Giuseppe and Mercedes Cecchi.

As Project Manager during construction of the Watergate complex in 1965, Cecchi oversaw the construction of the three apartment buildings, two office towers, and hotel.  The success that ensued is unrivaled – the complex became synonymous with style, class and luxury. Cecchi went on to become one of the Washington area’s most successful real estate developers, founding the IDI Group in 1975. IDI’s luxury residential projects include the Rotonda at Tysons Corner, The Belvedere in Rosslyn, Leisure World of Maryland and Leisure World of Virginia, mixed-use projects throughout Northern Virginia, and hotels such as the Vista International and Washington Renaissance.

Giuseppe and Mercedes, originally from Milan, Italy, met Father D’Ag in 2003 following Mass at a church in McLean, Virginia, and have been among Nyumbani’s most loyal friends and followers ever since, contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars and spreading the word and their influence to further the cause. We are truly grateful for everything they have done to support Fr. D’Ag and the children of Nyumbani over the years.
