48” x 88”, cork on panel
When self-taught artist Walter Deuschle opens a bottle of wine, he sees more than just a beverage. He sees the raw material for his next work of art. After a career spent working as a master chef, Deuschle now slices and shaves corks into tiny pieces to create stunning works of art. The perfect way to adorn any wine cellar—or home!—Deuschle’s work uses the subtle variations in color and texture of natural cork paired with bright hues of synthetic corks to meticulously craft these mesmerizing decorative panels.
While the companion panel, Flying High, is not formally part of the auction, interested buyers should speak with a staff member of the James A. Michener Art Museum to inquire about availability. Delivery is not included; please speak with a member of the Michener team to arrange a time for pick-up.
